Quan Dong Nguyen, MD, MSc

Dr. Nguyen is an internationally recognized ophthalmologist, clinician-scientist, and educator with deep expertise in the management of uveitis, retinal diseases, and ocular inflammation. He currently serves as Professor of Ophthalmology and Chief of the Uveitis Division at the Byers Eye Institute, Stanford University School of Medicine, where he also directs the fellowship program in Uveitis and Ocular Inflammatory Diseases.

Dr. Nguyen received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed his ophthalmology residency and fellowships at Harvard Medical School and the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins. He holds additional degrees in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University.

With an academic career spanning Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and Stanford, Dr. Nguyen has led major clinical trials and received continuous NIH funding for groundbreaking research in diabetic macular edema, age-related macular degeneration, and retinal vascular diseases. He has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and served as Principal Investigator or Chair of numerous multi-center studies, including the landmark READ and SAVE trials.

A leader in translational research and innovation, Dr. Nguyen is also a passionate mentor and advocate for advancing imaging and therapeutic strategies in ophthalmology.
